Boy Scout Leader Assessment Tool

Welcome to the Boy Scout Leader Assessment Tool.

The intended audience for this self-assessment tool is adult Boy Scout leaders, specifically scoutmasters, assistant scoutmasters, troop committee members, Boy Scout commissioners, and Boy Scout trainers.

This tool is designed to help you assess your strengths and weaknesses in regard to the current Boy Scout leader training courses. It is completely confidential. No personal information is collected at any time. The only information collected is your Scouting position, your council, training experience, Scouting tenure, and the answers to the assessment questions. The assessment is not used in any way as a test of your skills for determining leadership qualifications nor as a means of "testing out" of training courses.

This tool will be used to help the national Boy Scout organization and your local council to improve their training courses and help identify the training needs of the general membership.

You should be prepared to spend 40 to 60 minutes to complete the assessment. It must be completed in its entirety and may not be taken in parts.

When you complete the assessment, you will be presented with a list of your three best skill areas and your three skill areas needing improvement. In addition, you will receive a list of the official Boy Scout leader training courses and how well you scored on the questions relating to each course.

Your council:
Your position:
Have you been trained for your Scouting position?
How long have you been a Scout leader?
Were you ever a Boy Scout?
Have you attended Wood Badge?
