The Price of Freedom
A Citizenship and Leadership Program
of the Freedoms Foundation and the Boy Scouts of America
February 16-19, 2006 · Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge
The Price of Freedom program will be held February 16-19, 2006, at the Freedoms Foundation. There is no charge to attend as conference fees are covered by a grant from the Freedoms Foundation, but each individual or contingent must cover its travel expense to/from Philadelphia, Pa. Freedoms Foundation will provide transportation to/from the Greyhound/Trailways bus terminal (downtown Philadelphia), the Amtrak Philadelphia 30th Street Station, or Philadelphia International Airport. Contingents traveling by motor vehicle will report directly to the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge.
Since 1949, Freedoms Foundation and the Boy Scouts of America have worked together on numerous projects. This partnership has been renewed with the creation of the Price of Freedom program. The Price of Freedom Conference is a four-day residential program that allows participants the opportunity to interact with experts on current issues of citizenship, patriotism, leadership, and heroism. Participants have the opportunity to make history come to life as they tour colonial Philadelphia and Valley Forge National Historic Park, the site of the 1950, 1957, and 1964 national Boy Scout jamborees. This program is designed to challenge the participants to understand the price paid for the freedoms we enjoy. Participants interact with speakers from across the United States to understand their role as American citizens and ambassadors of America throughout the world!
The conference will serve 100 youth. Each Boy Scout council is invited to send a contingent of youth to participate. Conference participation will be based upon reservations received on a first-come, first-served basis. Participation in this program is limited to young men and women currently enrolled in grades 10, 11, or 12; who are active in the Scouting program and have demonstrated leadership in their Boy Scout troop, Varsity Scout team, Venturing crew, or Sea Scout ship; and who meet a minimum of one of the following rank requirements:
Demonstration of leadership in Scouting is not limited to the Scout unit, but should also include areas of involvement and leadership such as the Order of the Arrow, summer camp staff, high-adventure programs, peer leadership training, etc. This is an excellent team-building opportunity for your Order of the Arrow lodge officers and your high-school-age camp staff.
Come join us for this exciting adventure in citizenship where the past meets the present and the future comes to life!

The Freedoms Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching young people the principles upon which our nation was founded. It is their hope to convey the close link between the rights and the responsibilities of citizens in society.
Through education programs, collectively titled America's School for Citizenship Education, Freedoms Foundation teaches Americans about America. Each year, some 3,000 students from all 50 states take part in Freedoms Foundation educational programs that include U.S. history, constitutional rights and citizens' responsibilities, core values, and the private enterprise system.
Freedoms Foundation was established after World War II by prominent business leaders to honor patriotism and good citizenship. Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower served as chairman from the Foundation's founding in 1949 until his death in 1969.
Since then, the organization's educational and awards programs have reached more than 100,000 people from all walks of life. In addition to educating young Americans, the Foundation educates teachers and volunteers to go out into their communities and teach their fellow Americans what it means to be an American citizen--the rights and responsibilities of being an American.
